The new One-Day New Mexico Wild Horse Workshops are photo which sessions include the Placitas Wild Horses and the Monero Mustangs Sanctuary at Yellow Hills Ranch in New Mexican. Both locations offer incredibly colorful bands of horses against the dramatic Western backdrops of New Mexico and allow for both scenic and close-up images.
The fee is $240 + NM Tax and includes permit and entrance fees, presentation on wild horses, lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the day, photo instruction as needed in the field. For dates and more information.
Monero Mustangs Sanctuary recently adopted four horses from the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory. One of those is Malpais, a former band stallion adored and photographed by many workshop participants. He had been in the holding pens for three months and at 17 yrs. of age, his chances for adoption were slim. Monero Mustangs graciously stepped in to adopt not only Malpais, but his 18 yr. old pen mate and two fillies, as well. They have formed their own bands on the sanctuary and it’s an absolute delight to see them once again living free on this beautiful 4700-acre ranch. Please visit the Monero website and support them in their efforts, if you are able. Winters there are often tough and supplementary feeding necessary. With massive roundups taking place on public lands throughout the West, sanctuaries such as Monero Mustangs are the only hope for many of the horses.
The Jicarilla Ranger District, Carson National Forest, has begun another roundup/removal. About 200 horses from the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory will eventually be offered for adoption. If you are an experienced horse person interested in adopting, or know others interested and knowledgeable enough to own and work with wild or young horses.
Fall Workshops Autumn in New Mexico is magical. Workshops are scheduled for September 11-13 (three-day) Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory and Monero Mustangs Sanctuary.
