    Editor's Comments:

This first issue of 2003 marks Equine Vision Magazine's second anniversary. While publishing this magazine I have encountered many unexpected benefits through my association with the artists over the last two years. I have developed a greater understanding and respect for their skills as artists and in a very real personal way a richer appreciation for the resulting works of art.

Mostly, I am taken with how often the artists have expressed their belief in God. Again and again I hear and read their thankfulness for the talent God has given them. Perhaps by marveling at the beauty of the horse, and upon closer study admiring the perfection in design of such an exquisite creature leads them to a strong faith. The artists seem to naturally and easily arrive at the conclusion that the horse must be created by a higher power. And that is a refreshing boost to my own faith.

Deborah Day, our cover artist, is featured in the book Of Women and Horses. In this book Deborah relates that as a child when she finally acquired a horse it was "a tangible reminder that God is real in a personal way." Later in the same chapter she says, "I see the horse as an instrument by which God teaches me about life. Maybe it is the Creator Himself who has placed this affinity for horses within me and maybe that is why I love them so much." Deborah's artwork can be viewed in this issue.

As each issue goes to press I am always uplifted by reading or talking with the artists, or simply by viewing their art. In his article about working with wood, David Smith's quote is incredibly appropriate,

"Life - no matter where it leads us - has beauty and value."

      Isn't that grand? Enjoy!
