Encounter in the Garden Batik, by Pamela Sirk
![]() |
Batik, the technique of combining dyes and wax on fabric, is an artistic method used by Kentucky artist Pamela Sirko to portray the beauty and elegance of the horse. Originating approximately 2,000 years ago, the technique has remained the same. Wax is applied to protect and separate colors applied or dyed to cloth. Pam Sirko's batik art is inspired by this ancient tradition, and each batik she creates is an original piece of art. The technique of batik offers unlimited possibilities for creativity as patterns are applied by actual drawing. Sirko comments, "My horses in batik can fly, swim, sail and be in any situation. Horses in my barn become fairy tales to me, and so my horses go along for the ride in my art of batik." |
